Like there are other image formats like JPG and PNG, there is one more format called WebP. Google has introduced it to be used mainly for the web. You may have a file in the WebP format you are unfamiliar with. It has images of 25-34% lesser in size, doesn’t compromise their quality and resolution, and works with almost every browser like Chrome, Opera, Firefox, etc.

How to Open WebP Image on Windows 11 or 10 with Photos App?

We recommend you use the Paint app to open and convert the WebP image into other formats such as JPG or PNG since the above method can be a little complicated and take longer. After converting the file to the desired format like JPG and PNG, you can also view it in other applications.

Use these steps to open WebP images on Windows 11 or 10 with the Photos app:-

Step 1: Firstly, open Control Panel.

Step 2: Find the Appearance and Personalizationoption.

Step 3: Now, go to the File Explorer Options.

Step 4: You will see a dialog box saying “File Explorer Options” switch to the View tab.

Step 5: Un-check the box “Hide extensions for known file types.”

Step 6: Click on Apply button.

Step 7: Click on OK.

Step 8: Next, find the File Explorer (Windows + E keyboard shortcut) and browse the .webp file you want to display.

Step 9: Right-click on the file and Renameit.

Step 10: Replace the extension .webp with .jpg or .png. Press Yes in the prompt window to change the file extension.

Step 11: Go to Open with > Photosby right-clicking on the image select as the final step.

Now, the image will open in the Photos app.

How to Open and Convert WebP Image to JPG or PNG on Windows 11 or 10 with Paint?

If you want to open and convert WebP image to JPG or PNG on Windows 11 or 10 using the Paint tool, use the following step:-

Step 1: Right-click on the WebP image and select Open with > Paint.

Step 2: Once done, the Paint app will open the WebP image.

Step 3: Look for the Save as option in the File menu.

You can also press Ctrl + S key combination to open it.

Step 4: You have various image options such as PNG, JPEG, BMP, or GIF.

Step 5: Click the Save button.

After completing all the above steps, the WebP image will save in the same folder where the original image exists with a different extension. The image will store in the format you want.
