RAR is an archive format of files with filename extensions as RAR. The ZIP files compress the file size and provide password-based protection for its data. RAR and ZIP are two popular formats for compressing the file. You, your friend, or your co-worker may send an email or message, or you may download a file from the Internet and receive it in .rar or .zip format.
You might think once that it is a virus, but the file with a .rar or .zip extension is not a virus; however, a virus may be packed under a .rar or .zip file. So be careful before unpacking a zip or RAR file if you have received it from an unknown source.
We use an archiver tool to compress a document or video, or file which reduces the size and helps them upload quickly. Some of us compress a file for long-term storage because it will take less space on our hard disk drive (HDD) after compressing it in .zip or .rar format.
How to Open RAR and ZIP files on Windows 11/10?
There is a ton of software available on the Internet to open RAR and ZIP files, and we prefer to use the WinRAR application. WinRAR is a paid tool, but we can use it for free by closing the popup box.
Right-click on the file and select the option “Extract to” WinRAR will create a new folder with the same file name, and all the contents will be extracted to that folder to extract the contents from a RAR or ZIP file.
For example, my archive file is hiveos.rar; when I perform the above steps, it will create a folder with the name of hiveos, and all the contents of the archives file will be extracted. WinRAR will not show any popup to purchase this software using this method.
The other method to extract content from the archive file is to double-click on it to open it. A dialog box will open to purchase the WinRAR.
After that, click on the Close button.
Then, select the content folder by clicking on it and then click on the “Extract To” icon from the top.
