If you use Windows 11 or 10, you might have noticed that, unlike other browsers, Mozilla Firefox doesn’t open the prompt window when you download a file from the Internet. It automatically downloads the file and saves it into the “Downloads” folder. If you have been through the same and want to make the prompt window appear, this article will save you the trouble. The download prompt window has not been removed from the browser, it might just be disabled, and you need to enable it.

How to Get Back Download Prompt on Firefox using its Settings?

Step 1: Let’s start by opening the Mozilla Firefox browser on your computer.

Step 2: Next, find the 3-horizontal line button (Open application menu), open it, and select Settings in the drop-down menu.

Step 3: Once the Firefox settings page opens, select the General tab on the left side.

Step 4: On the right side of General, scroll down to the Downloads section, find the option “Always ask you where to save files,” and click on it.

Complete the above steps, and it will solve the issue. The next time you download Mozilla Firefox, the prompt window will appear on the screen.

Now, if you change your mind and don’t want any prompt for download, you need to repeat the above steps and on the right side of General, scroll down to the Downloads section and un-check the option, “Always ask you where to save files.”

How to Turn On or Off Old Download Prompt in Firefox?

Step 1: Firstly, open the Firefox browser.

Step 2: In the address bar, type about: config and press Enter on the keyboard.

Step 3: Then click on the Accept the Risk and Continue button.

Step 4: Now, copy and paste the following into the search bar:-

browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel

Step 5: You will see that this value is set to “True” by default, which means that the new, improved download panel is enabled. Double click on True to turn the value to False.
