How to Enable Drag and Drop Support in VirtualBox?

As an alternative to downloading a Windows operating system to your computer, VirtualBox is an excellent choice. It lets you download any Windows operating system you desire virtually onto your computer. One of the great things about VirtualBox is that it allows you to share a folder between your host and guest operating systems. To complete the installation process, the host and guest operating systems share a folder, and files and folders from the host operating system can also be copied to the guest operating system.

The drag-and-drop method is a convenient way to accomplish this because you do not have to transfer every file separately to the destination. Instead, you drag them to your destination. The first step in this process is to enable drag-and-drop support in VirtualBox. You will need to install the guest additions to do so.

This article about risewindows will look at how you can enable drag-and-drop functionality on a virtual machine by installing a set of Guest Additions. When we do this, we can allow drag-and-drop functionality on the virtual machine.

How to install Guest additions on a Virtual machine?

Step 1: Firstly, on your computer, launch the guest Windows 10.

Step 2: Look for the Devices option in the VirtualBox menu. Afterward, go to the “Insert Guest Additions CD image” option.

Step 3: Double-click on VBoxWindowsAdditions.exe and run it. It will automatically mount on the virtual CD-ROM.

Step 4: A prompt window saying Windows User Account Control (UAC) will show up on your screen. If it does, click on Yes.

Step 5: While installing the additions, one more prompt window will appear, asking you to install the device software. If it does, click on Install

Step 6: A final prompt window on your screen will next ask you to reboot your computer. Clicking on the Reboot now option will restart your Guest windows 10.

Step 7: Boot it again and run the Guest Windows 10.

Step 8: Navigate through Devices > Drag and Drop > Bidirectional.

It is also possible to disable the feature by going to Devices > Drag and Drop > Disabled, or you can use the one-way drag and drop instead of part. Choose the option that best suits your needs by navigating to Devices > Drag and Drop > Disabled.

As soon as all the steps above have been completed successfully, you will be able to drag and drop any files or folders from the host to the guest OS and vice versa as per your requirements once the above steps have been completed successfully.

That is it.
