How to make Windows Terminal Always Open With Command Prompt on Windows 11?

Step 1: First, go to the Windows Terminal on your computer.

You can do it by going to the taskbar at the bottom of your screen. Next, click on the start button and select Windows Terminal or Windows Terminal (Admin).

Step 2: Once the Windows Terminal application displays on your screen, go to the tabs section and click on the downward-facing arrow beside the plus (+) sign.

Step 3: In the menu that appears, click on Settings.

Step 4: Now, as the settings window opens, go to the “Default Profile” drop-down menu and click on Command Prompt in the options.

Step 5: Click the Save button.

Close the Settings window after completing all the steps. Windows will ensure that Command Prompt will be displayed whenever you click on the plus (+) sign in the Windows Terminal.

You can change these settings in the future according to your requirements. For instance, if you want PowerShell to open every time you click on the same plus (+) sign, repeat the above steps, but in the drop-down menu in step 4, select Windows PowerShell.
